Field Prep Guide
Use the below notes in the field to properly prepare your trophy for taxidermy success
Large Game Prep
Whitetail Deer Prep - decide how you want the deer mounted (e.g. shoulder mount, pack-out mount). Field dress the animal - refrain from cutting past the sternum. Do NOT cut all the way to the chin!! For a pack-out mount, a WHOLE body cape is necessary, tail and all. See PDF guide for more details
Black Bear Prep - decide how you want the bear mounted (e.g. shoulder mount, rug, life size, pack-out mount). For a pack-out mount, at least HALF of the body is necessary with the front legs whole including the feet. Do not cut all the way to the chin when field dressing. You can bring a bear to us completely whole, it will cost $50/foot to skin. See PDF guide for more details
Small and Medium Game Prep
Anything that is coyote sized and smaller can be put in a clean trash bag, tied tight with little air, and frozen whole (no field dressing) as soon as possible. This will ensure the quality of the hide

Upland and Migratory Bird Prep
After a bird has been collected, put it and any loose feathers in an air-tight bag, and freeze it whole as soon as possible.
More than 4 hours unfrozen could mean spoilage of the bird. Call Cassidy Taxidermy to arrange a drop off time.

Fish Prep
Once a fish is caught that you want mounted, take pictures of it from all angles. Up-close pictures of the details on the fish are vital.
Put the fish on ice immediately. Leaving the fish only in water will cause the scales to slip off.
When you get home, wrap the fish in either a junk towel or paper towels, wet it down with cold water, put it in an airtight bag, and freeze it.
